Student of The Month

Foreword
Dear Friends of The Asturias Academy,
We are about to celebrate our 15th anniversary this August. Every year we suspend classes for a week as our students participate in cultural, athletic and dance competitions. A highlight for me is always the story competition where we encourage our students to write more about their lives and experience. This year we will try to publish a copy of the students' stories as an actual book. Watch for more details on how you can help us publish and get your own copy.
Best,
Jorge Chojolán,
Founder & Director, Miguel Angel Asturias Academy

Students Visit AutoSafari Chapin

On June 24th, the Miguel Angel Asturias Academy embarked on an adventure to Auto Safari Chapin in Escuintla, Guatemala. The first part of the safari consisted of viewing exotic animals such as lions and giraffes from the bus. After, the students walked through the park observing parrots, ostriches, and pumas in an up close and personal zoo-like setting! The trip ended with lunch accompanied by a few refreshing hours of swimming in a pool located within the animal park.

The Asturias Academy considers field trips to be an integral part of every student’s educational experience. Spending time outside of the classroom interacting with the real world is invaluable to growth, and we are certain that providing the students with an intimate interaction with the natural world was significantly enriching.

Eduturismo Stresses Hygiene

As the Month of Health concluded, we were greatful that the Christ United Methodist Church and a group of nursing students participated in our Eduturismo program. Equipped with medical supplies, they reinfornced the importance of dental care, eye care, and handwashing.

In addition, they made a tremendous contribution of medical supplies to our forthecoming medical clinic. Check out the video above to see how this Eduturismo group worked together with our students. We wish to thank all those that participated!

Theme of The Month: Politics and The Economy
This month students learned about politics and the economy. Our students looked at how politics currently work in Guatemala as well as the way that they would like it to be. At the culmination of this theme, our students will elect a new student government which will take part in coming up with and enacting ideas that support and enhance the Asturias Academy.
